We rent a rowboat!

There is a bait store at the little marina and Vi, who brought her fishing poles from the cabin, gets a container of worms. We row the little boat out toward the middle of the lake and cast our lines. Vi catches one fish after another - two bass, a sunfish and even a couple of catfish. I catch nothing! I guess my good luck does not carry over to fishing. Every time Vi catches a fish, I can’t help but accidentally (wink) splash her with one of the oars.

The sky starts to darken a bit and I notice Vi looking up at the dark clouds rolling in from over the mountains. She suggests we reel in our lines and start rowing back to the marina. Just as we get the fishing rods secured back in the boat and I take over the oars, we hear the distant rumble of thunder. Vi literally looks terrified, which makes me panic and row faster. Vi, the nature lover, is clearly afraid of thunderstorms.

I row as quickly as I can, but not quickly enough. By the time we arrive back at the marina, the sky has opened up with huge drops of cold rain. The thunder is not quite overhead, but definitely closer and we can see flashes of lightening over the mountaintop. We are both soaked and a bit breathless as we run for cover into the shelter of the bait store. Luckily, the rest of Vi's family has also made it back safely.

The thunderstorm is really intense, but passes over quickly. When the rain subsides, we load ourselves back into the car for the ride back up the tiny and curvy roads to the little cabin.
