I have never paddleboarded before and I am not sure I want to do it for the first time on the giant body of water that spreads out before me. Luckily, the water is calm and clear. It takes me a few tries to get my balance, but soon I am paddling along the coastline. Of course, I have to ask Renzo to slow down so I can keep up with him.
I start to feel surprisingly comfortable paddling along the shore and am really beginning to enjoy the sensation of the ocean beneath my paddleboard. I make the mistake of looking down into the water. First, I notice that the water looks very deep, even though we are not far from shore. I find myself tightening my lifejacket a little. Second, I notice that there are schools of small fish swimming by. I start to imagine that I see shadows of much larger fish under my paddleboard. Am I imagining them? I decide it is best to keep my eyes above the waterline and I distract myself by telling Renzo a bunch of lame jokes. Renzo doesn’t mind, as it appeals to his cheesy nature.
We got a bit of a late start today and it is beginning to get dark. We better head back to the condo for dinner. What a great day!
