We hike the middle falls trail!

We hike to the middle falls. As we get further down the trail, other trails begin to merge onto our path and I am amazed by the number of people that we see. Where did they all come from? I start to get excited as I notice that some of the people passing us from the other direction are wet and have towels wrapped around them. Swimming!

We get to the middle falls and I have to stop for a minute to take in the scene. There is a beautiful waterfall surrounded by lush green hills. It is dumping massive amounts of water into a deep swimming hole. There are people jumping off large boulders into the big pool of water and little kids splashing in the shallow pools of water that gather further down stream.

Waterfall

Vi and I cannot get there quickly enough. We find a remote area in the woods and toss on our bathing suits. We run down to the waterfall and join some other kids on one of the boulders. We jump into the water. Brrrr! This water is cold. The rest of the afternoon goes like this: jump off a boulder, float down stream on the current created by the waterfall, try to swim back upstream (not happening), get out of the stream and walk the rocks along the riverbank back to the boulders, jump off a boulder...

We are exhausted and the long hike back to the cabin after all that swimming is torture. I now understand what it means to fall asleep before your head hits the pillow!
