We follow the blue trail markers along the lower falls trail. This trail mainly goes downhill. You know what that means for the trip back…
We pass through a campground filled with about every type of camping accommodation you can imagine. We see teepee style tents, multi-room tents, yurts, campers that look like tents, campers that are on top of pickup trucks, campers that are pulled behind trucks and a ginormous RV that is the size of a bus. We each pick our favorite accommodation as we walk through the campground. Vi’s, not surprisingly, is the yurt. Mine is the ginormous RV.
I can hear rushing water far in the distance, so I am puzzled when the trail ends at a slow flowing stream. Approaching the stream, I realize the sound of distant rushing water must be the waterfall further up the mountain. The water here is nice and calm and crystal clear. It is shallow and I can see fish swimming between the rocks.
We spread ourselves out on a giant, flat rock and enjoy our lunch. I’m starving! When we are done eating, we ease ourselves into the frigid water one toe at a time until the water is just over our knees. The sun is shining brightly and we find the perfect rocks for laying on, half in the sun and half in the water.
After a long leisurely afternoon of sunbathing, skipping stones and wading in the shallow water, we make the long hike uphill back to the cabin. It is almost dark when we finally arrive and the stars sure are pretty. I think I see Orion's belt!
