I have never been in a canoe before. Vi explains that the person in the back of the canoe does most of the steering and the person in the front provides additional power to propel the canoe forward. We decide it would be best for Vi to sit in the back, since I don't know what I am doing. It is awkward getting into the canoe and I feel like it may tip over.
Once we are settled in, the boat feels much sturdier. We are each handed a paddle and Vi and I pick opposite sides to paddle on. We begin to paddle along the shoreline looking at the small lakeside houses. They have cute little yards with hammocks tied to trees and fishing docks that extend into the water. After we have circled most of the small lake, Vi tells me that the best part of canoeing is flipping the boat... what?
We wait until we are almost back to the marina and paddle just a little offshore where the water is deeper. We begin to rock the boat until it starts to flip over. Just as the canoe begins to flip, we jump out. We collect the floating paddles and I am amazed to see the canoe is now floating upside down. Don't try this at home kids!
We splash around for awhile and I soon discover that it is not so easy to flip the canoe back over. Vi already knew this, which is why we are near the marina. We grab the edges of the upside down canoe, swim with it back to shore and pull it up on the marina's beach. I can't wait to go canoeing again!
