Larry finds a giant log on the ground. The center of the log has rotted out and the raccoon is able to climb inside. The space is a perfect fit for Larry. He curls into a ball and falls fast asleep.
When Larry wakes up, it is dark and he is hungry. There are no garbage cans in the forest and there are no restaurants. What shall Larry eat? Larry hears running water nearby. He finds a stream and takes a drink. He notices fish in the water, but he has never hunted for food before and is unable to catch them. He digs around the dirt bottom of the stream and sees something familiar.
Sometimes, Larry’s favorite Italian restaurant would throw clams or mussels out in the alley for the cats. He recognizes similar shells in the stream bed. He picks one up with his paws, but the shell is sealed shut. Luckily, Larry has dexterous fingers and sharp teeth. Larry is able to break open the shell with his teeth and eat the mussel inside. The raccoon digs in the stream for more mussels and is soon full from the tasty feast.
Now having slept and eaten, it is time for Larry to explore the forest.
