I’m only twelve years old. What do I know about a career? I need to live a little, try things out. Instead of writing a paper about my dream job, I decided to write about how difficult it is to choose a dream job, having never worked and having no idea what I may want to do in the future.
My teacher gave me a "C". She considered giving me an incomplete, since I did not follow the parameters of the assignment, but decided instead to pick a career for me. She said that my paper was well written, had good examples and very convincing arguments in support of my position. She had crossed out my title “I Don’t Know What I Want to Do” and wrote in “I Should Be A Writer.”
I have to say that being a writer never crossed my mind. At least I will get a lot of practice. For extra credit, I now need to write a paper about why it is important to follow my teacher’s instructions. Maybe I should write instead about how following "parameters" in writing can stump creativity and turn people into robots.
